The Roots of Dyrisa

By Eldas the Adventurer, Year 1134

Deep underground lie the ancient roots of Dyrisa. They are so named by the "Dyrisians", the cave dwellers who first discovered them.

On my journey to see the roots, I was able to aquire a local guide. He took me to a cave entrance leading to a wet and dark passageway. Once underground, it was a half day of walking through endless tunnels before we reached our destination.

The sounds I heard in the darkness! What foul creatures exist in those caves I do not know. Feeling my fear, my guide encouraged me onward. "Our light will protect us," he assured me.

Exhausted from the journey, I was eager to see the roots. In my mind I imagined them brimming with magical energy. What would they speak to me, these mysterious roots hidden so deeply? Would they glow with light, as I had heard in the tales growing up?

To my disappointment, the roots had no such magical quality. Were they large? Yes. But mystical, not particularly. The cavern where we found them was like any other, not glowing, but dark and musky.

We did not stay long; the oil for our torches was running low. Not that it mattered, having explored several of the roots accessible near the cave floor their nature easily became apparent. Apart from size, the roots of Dyrisa are no different than roots I have known since I was a child playing in the forest behind our house.
