Machinist Crafting
By Derweed Mastercrafter, Year 1190
Most men are fearful. This is why they do not explore, they do not build, and they do not create. I remind myself of this fact daily, my mind speaking sternly to my body, as if by pure thought I could summon strength to will myself forward - that I might construct larger, more intricate, and beautiful works. Is that not the dream of every master craftsman?
The work has been difficult for me recently. With my last few projects having failed, and costing me a considerable sum of money, I knew I had to give my all to this next work. That is when I turned my attention to the temples - those ancient ruins scattered across our lands. They are said to be dangerous, rotting, full of bugs and there are even rumors of violent soulless automatons who roam their halls. But at this point I was not afraid, for I felt that no danger could stop me from acquiring the perfect material for my next project.
Upon entering my first temple, I quickly discovered the rumors of automatons were true. But their construction was not impressive as they are nothing but mindless beasts running on rudimentary crystalline magic energy. More impressive was the vast amount of crystalline energy, a extremely rare resource, which must be required to power these constructs.
Eventually I came to find these "Dynamos", which are machine parts with untold power. What the temple dwellers used these parts for I do not know, since I only ever saw Dynamos separated from their original use. One I found deep underground, as if it had fallen through the bottom floor of the temple and into a cave. Another was tucked away in a chest in some kind of meeting room.
Nevertheless, it soon became apparent what wonders I could craft with these Dynamos. Beautiful creations filled with light and power. But my masterpiece, the one that has brought me the most notoriety and wealth among my fellow craftsmen, I call the Machinist Amulet. It is a beautiful pendant that radiates with power. Through the use of heated scrap metal I was able to slowly reshape and mold a Dynamo into an amulet, fit for human wear.
Of course, I did not share with anyone my secret source, which is the Dynamo, but now the burden of this secret has become too much to bear. Crafters much share their knowledge with each other or risk becoming isolated and useless. For this reason I now prepare these instructions in writing for those craftsmen who would choose to listen.
